Front Pages of the World

What is your favorite newspaper front page? Why?

Kingston joins crowded GOP field for Ga. Senate

What is your favorite headline from that newspaper? Why are you interested in it?

Gun control bills fail. I'm interested in it because i don't think its a good idea for them to make these bills.
How many stories are on the front page of your favorite?

4 stories are on the front page

What do you notice that all newspaper front pages have in common? Look at design, size of photos, size of story text, etc.

the main story is the only one that really has photos, they are all kinda laid out in the same way and the stories text size is smaller then the heading.

What are things that vary (or are different) on the front pages of different newspapers? Look at design, size of photos, size of headlines, etc.

the way they put there name, the advertisements are different and some talk about more politics and others talk about other stuff.

composition lenses and photography terms

I would use a telephoto lens to get a far away subject that is far away like a football game

I would use a prime lens to get a picture of basket ball so you could see the muscles and the vanes popping out of there neck and really detailed stuff

I would use a wide-angle lens to get a picture of marching band when they do there formations during halftime

Vocabulary

Depth of Field (shallow and wide)-The distance between the nearest and the furthest objects that give an image judged to be in focus in a camera.

Light (angle and intensity)- light is natural light like the sun but it can also be artificial light by laps and light bulbs and stuff like that

Shadows- if you have have something in the way of light a dark area behind the object will form behind the object

Diffusion- its when light goes through smoke or a screen and splits the light into a bunch of different rays of light instead of one.

Exposure-  allowing light to reach light-sensitive material to create image by either opening shutter to expose film or illuminating dark subject with flash of light.

Aperture (f-stop)- Regulates the amount of light that passes through the shutter so it makes the image brighter or dark deepening on what its set too.

Shutter speed- this is what you want to change if you want to show movement in your photo the lower the shutter speed the more clear movement is.

ISO- lets the camera know how much exposure the photo needs to come out good.

Magazine Covers.

1. Early Magazine Covers

The Town and Country Magazine
1788
the oldest magazines didn't have covers like we think. on the opening page they just had a title and a table of content

2. The PosteCover

The Munsey's
1898
the cover was a painting of some soldiers riding on horses going into the battle of cuba

3. Pictures Married to Type

McClure's
1898
there cover was a poster cover that stood for the american freedom on the day of July 4th

4. In the Forest of Words

Guitar World
1992

by the 1990s cover art was just as important  as the cover stories and some of the cover lines were bigger then the name of the magazine

My favorite cover

The editors’ description of the cover : "Doing what they do may seem extreme enough, but to photograph Yosemite climbers, including Alex Honnold edging face-out along the Thank God Ledge on Half Dome (because ‘it's cooler that way’), is another whole ball of equipment. Photographer Jimmy Chin, who makes a living creating images of climbers all over the world, said: ‘At the end of the day, if I got one photo that I felt truly captured Yosemite climbing, that would make me happy.’ He got one—and it landed on the cover of National Geographicin May 2011."

this photo made the photographer happy that he got it because the guy was climbing over what they call the thank god ledge. it shows a lot of people that if he can do this you can do something your afraid of. I'm pretty sure he had nerves before he did this.

magazine tips

1. Familiar recognition from issue to issue

2. It lacks scale because it is isolated in its own magic electronic world, so you have nothing real to compare it to. You can only guess at type sizes and hope they’re ok.
3. Arousing curiosity

4. Instead, ask the designer to print out all the alternates as hard copy, trim them accurately to magazine size and glue them onto old issues, so you can see them as close to the real thing as possible. Now, toss them on a tabletop, so they flop around and overlap like real magazines do.

5. Efficient, fast, easy to scan

Welcome back

I have always liked the moon and eclipse so i think this is a really cool picture.

I like how they bought it as its going into an eclipse and you can see the shadow on the earth.

I think this is just a good looking picture with the plans flinging in a formation.
